Creative Encounters is proud to launch our NEW series of our Camp-in-a-Box STEM kits—designed, packaged, & delivered [virtual tutorial] by our team of undergrad student STEM Instructors!
Recommended age: Ages 8-13 (Grades 4-8)
Camp-in-a-Box is a self-contained assortment of materials and activities with an instructional booklet to guide your child through STEM-based content from home with hands-on learning. Plus, NEW to this summer: each Camp-in-a-Box will have an accompanying LIVE TUTORIAL on Zoom where campers will feel like they’re actually at camp with fellow kids and our STEM instructors! All of our kits can be shipped anywhere in Canada for an additional fee, OR you can pick up at the University of Guelph campus at no additional cost.
**If you cannot attend the live tutorial, we will be posting pre-recorded tutorials for each of our boxes on our YouTube channel (will also link them on this page) that will be available soon after each box’s live session takes place (dates for live sessions listed below).**
Box #1: Mission to the Moon — CLOSED
Be an astronaut for the day and join us in our mission to live on the moon with this space-themed Camp-in-a-Box! Throughout our interactive lesson and hands on activities, we’re going to learn how to use energy on the moon and how to build technology used in space. During our journey, we will create a device to grab objects in outer-space, a space shuttle to land on the moon and an oven to cook food on the moon!

Box #2: Doctor for the Day — CLOSED
Be a Doctor for the day and join us to learn about our body’s fascinating systems with this human body themed Camp-in-a-Box! Through our interactive lesson and hands-on activities, we will explore how the nervous system, respiratory system, skeletal system, and circulatory system work together so we can perform tasks necessary to live, work and play! As Doctors for the day, we will be creating a brain hat to wear, a model lung in a bottle, and a model robotic hand!

Box #3: STEM Spy Kit — CLOSED
Do you want to uncover spy secrets hidden in plain light? In this training mission, we will explore the world of light and optics as we investigate how the technologies used by spies work! Throughout our interactive lesson and hands-on activities, we’re going to learn about how light interacts with our environment and how spies utilize light in their top-secret missions. During our training mission, we will engage in an invisible ink investigation, use a spy decoder to translate a secret message and build our own spy periscope!

Box #4: Chemistry Wiz Kit — CLOSED
Be a wizard for a day and join us with this chemistry-themed Camp-in-a-Box! We will be exploring how scientists who work in the field of chemistry (or chemists), are the wizards of today! Throughout our interactive lesson and hands on experiments, we’re going to be testing out our skills as chemists by exploring concepts such as chemical reactions, chemical properties, and so much more. During this Camp-in-a-Box, we will use chemistry to create colourful flowers, create our very own lava lamp, and play with magic sand!
