Summer 2025: STEM Instructor (Undergrad)

If you love science, working with kids, and collaborating with like-minded peers then this is the ultimate job experience for you!

We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate, and hard-working undergraduate students interested in being part of our STEM Instructor team this summer (May-August). Instructors are responsible for preparing and delivering classroom workshops (virtual or in-person) in May and June, as well as designing and implementing the camp curriculum on campus in July and August for grades 2-10 students. Prior experience working with youth (i.e., teaching, coaching, camp counselling, etc.) or other vulnerable persons is preferred, although it is not necessary to apply. Experience with educational technology such as Arduinos, LEGO Robotics, Makey Makeys, Raspberry Pi, etc., or experience with coding & computer programming is highly valued as we regularly use and engage with these technologies in our programming.

Those selected to be part of this summer’s STEM Instructor team are set to begin on May 5th and end on August 29th, 2025 (dates subject to change). Instructors who excel at their summer position may be offered part-time work over the following fall/winter semesters, depending on availability. All staff will get at least 1 week off, unpaid, at some point during the summer for a pre-scheduled period (TBD).

What is Creative Encounters?

Creative Encounters (AKA Creative Encounters with Science) is an outreach organization based at the University of Guelph that promotes interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) among youth living in Guelph and beyond. Our mission is to inspire, support, and spark curiosity in youth with fun and educational hands-on STEM activities at our summer camps, workshops, clubs, events, and more. Some of our big initiatives include Indigenous Outreach (InSTEM), Promoting Awareness of Girls in Engineering and Science (P.A.G.E.S.), fostering digital literacy and computer science skills, and reaching underserved youth.

Creative Encounters runs through the university’s College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and is a proud network member of Actua: Canada’s largest STEM outreach organization with over 40 other university and college-based network members nationwide.
